As for being in Germany as a missionary, you're right, it's about the service. One thing I realized is that the greatest kind of service, or the thing that helps the people the most is bringing them unto Christ. Our investigator that loves Christ, we found him visiting a home that contains several families. We went to visit someone we had met previously, and we found this man out back. We asked about our other friend, and mentioned the gospel. He told us that he really loves Christ, accepted a Book of Mormon and an invitation to learn more. After a short discussion he had to go, but I hope that we get to meet with him again soon, he is a great guy!
And as for meals, I have to admit that Elder Hølm outmatches me when it comes to cooking in every way. Except cookies. We usually cook more or less together, but elder Hølm does all of the "heavy lifting" so to speak. We get invited to usually one member a week to eat, sometimes two, and occasionally three or more! They have fed us sauerkraut, potatoes, soup, Knödeln, and Blaukraut (Rotkohl). I think The best new/unusual food we had was someone who made cream of mushroom chicken soup kind of, and put it over Spätzle. That was good!
